Rotterdam is in contrary to alot of the 'good-old' Dutch cities a extremely modern city. It is one of the few cities with high-rise buildings and a real skyline. Rotterdam is together with Frankfurt, Paris, Warschau and London in the Eurpean top 10 list of cities with high-rise buildings

Rotterdam never sleeps is a saying in the Netherlands; And they are right ! Near the trainstation and along the river are several high-rise buildings. At Kop van Zuid, including the Wilhelminapier, the highest skyscrapers in the Netherlands are build or planned. Some of the buildings are:

  • New Orleans (480 feet)
  • Maastoren (492 feet)
  • De Baltimore (513 feet)
  • De Rotterdam (435 feet)

In the near future the Zalmhaven Urban tower (570 feet), near the Erasmusbridge, will be the highest building ever build in the Netherlands.

Not all buildings are that high; Other architectural icons are the cubical houses and the pencil tower at Blaak, Groothandelsgebouw, Van Nelle fabriek, central library of Rotterdam, soccerstadium 'De Kuip' and the Bijenkorf building.
